If you're looking for the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS) you have come to the right place. We have some exciting news about our organization. We have a new name! MOFAS has officially been renamed Proof Alliance. Our mission remains the same: to prevent prenatal alcohol exposure and to improve the quality of life for people living with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD).

Why PR%F

We now have the proof that prenatal alcohol exposure is a leading cause of brain injury in children. We have the proof that FASD is 100% preventable and people living with an FASD can reach 100% of their potential.

Why Alliance?

We seek to build powerful alliances with people with an FASD, their families, legislators, experts in the field, new partners, and community members to bring awareness, research, and services to this field.

What's Next?

Proof Alliance is rebranding, expanding, and we're moving! We have a new logo, website, and prevention campaign to help change the norms around drinking during pregnancy. And in May 2019 we will be moving to a stand-alone building. Proof Alliance commits to the people of Minnesota and we will continue to develop transformative programs to help Minnesotans impacted by FASD.

MOFAS Five Year Strategic Plan

In 2015, MOFAS completed a five year strategic plan to guide all areas of our work focused on eliminating disability caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy and improving the quality of life for those living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).  MOFAS understands that FASD is complex. Access to prevention, identification, diagnosis, treatment and support, need to be available from preconception to adulthood.

Enduring Organizational Strengths

During this process, several organizational strengths were identified and will continue to define ongoing service delivery and program development:

1.  MOFAS will continue to be client-centered. We are committed to continuously evaluating what families and individuals with an FASD need, and customize, adapt or add services to meet those needs.

2.  MOFAS will continue its commitment to educating the public on the risk of drinking alcohol while pregnant.  Effectively reaching women who are or could become pregnant is paramount to our success, and we will continue to challenge ourselves to improve and expand messaging to maximize impact.

Four Strategic Directives

At the end of the strategic planning process, four strong strategic directives emerged that will guide our work through education and awareness, screening and diagnosis, and development of appropriate and services related to FASD.

1. MOFAS will develop and deliver impactful and transformative programs that are available statewide, delivered in appropriate formats, and have measureable outcomes for target audiences including preconception, prenatal, early childhood, school age, transition age, adults and general populations. To accomplish this, MOFAS will:

  • Accelerate access to programs and services regardless of location in the state and common barriers such as race, culture, location, and socio-economic status
  • Identify partnerships and strategic grant making to increase impact
  • Build on strengths and expertise of MOFAS to expand programs throughout state
  • Relentlessly increase awareness of FASD, MOFAS, and resources available

2. MOFAS will share resources on a national platform by establishing the Institute on FASD Advancement that researches, pilots, models and disseminates best practices.  To accomplish this, MOFAS will:

  • Research and pilot programs related to diagnosis, prevention, support, and trainings
  • Establish protocol for best practices
  • Share research, information and best/promising practices via education and training to national audiences.
  • FASD Justice Project is being launched as the first project in the Institute and will focus on addressing the over-representation of FASD in the justice system.

3. MOFAS will actively building a national and statewide advocacy movement for policy and systems change. To accomplish this, MOFAS will:

  • Build the capacity of individuals with an FASD, families and women in recovery to advocate
  • Establish FASD as a relevant and timely issue in the policy arena
  • Leverage the Institute and other national research to strengthen the leadership and advocacy movement, translating research into action

4. MOFAS will strengthen our capacity to support this planned organizational growth. To accomplish this, MOFAS will:

  • Build the leadership capacity of the organization in the board of directors, staff and volunteer sectors
  • Design partnership opportunities and volunteer roles that help to carry the work and movement forward
  • Refine the funding model to support the future direction and current growth of the organization
  • Establish system to support increased program develop and evaluation
