FASD in the News

It is Proof Alliance’s role to educate the community about fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), how it is prevented and how to help people access the appropriate resources and supports. That’s why we’ve just issued a press release to the media.

Prenatal Alcohol Exposure - A Mitigating Factor

Proof Alliance cannot express the depth of our grief and empathy for the victims and families impacted by the act of gun violence that took the lives of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February 2018. This case is now in the sentencing phase.

Throughout the trial, the defense has offered as a mitigating factor that the then 19-year-old perpetrator had a neurodevelopmental disorder associated with prenatal alcohol exposure.

It is our role to educate the community about FASD.

While it isn’t Proof Alliance’s role to comment on the criminal offender’s diagnosis or the case, it is our role to educate the community about FASD, how it is prevented, and how to help people access the appropriate resources and supports.

That’s why we’ve issued a press release to the media. You can review the full press release below. Please share it widely.
