FASD Awareness Starts Here

September is National Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Month.

Together, we can honor living experiences, build greater understanding and take meaningful steps toward a future where everyone impacted by an FASD is seen, supported and valued.

Join us.

Why September?

FASD Awareness Month takes place in the 9th month of the year, and FASD Awareness Day is on the 9th day—a powerful reminder of the 9 months of pregnancy when it’s safest to avoid alcohol.

This season of awareness honors the stories of individuals and families impacted by FASD, centers the voices of living experience, and calls for greater support, education and visibility.

Our 2025 Theme: FASD & Education

This year, we’re focusing on FASD in the classroom—highlighting the need for early recognition, informed educators and supportive learning environments.

Whether you’re a teacher, parent, student or advocate, we invite you to explore how understanding FASD within educational systems helps students impacted to reach their full potential.

Let’s work together to:

  • Recognize how FASD affects learning in the classroom
  • Equip educators with tools to support every learner
  • Celebrate the creativity and resilience of students with FASD

Nominate an FASD-Informed Educator in Minnesota!

We’re asking you—parents, caregivers, students and community members—to help us highlight educators in Minnesota who “get it.” These are the champions in our schools who create supportive, inclusive classrooms where students with FASD can reach their full potential.

One teacher will be randomly selected on August 22 to receive a bundle of classroom goodies—just in time for the new school year!

To nominate, include:

  • Teacher’s name

  • Grade they teach

  • School and district

  • A short description of how they support students with FASD—whether through compassion, flexibility, advocacy, or innovation

Submit your nomination now in the Virtual Family Center Facebook Group.
