I am an international adoptee, an adoptive parent to a child on the FAS spectrum, a foster parent to a teen, and primarily work with kids from foster, kinship and adoption and trauma. I love working with ages infant through 6 years old (have training with diagnosing children ages 0-5) especially, though I enjoy working with children and teens as well. I also love education parents/caregivers and coaching them to assist them in their confidence raising children and teens with unique needs. I have been working with children in families in various settings (in home, school and private practice) for the last 10 years and am honored by what each family and child has taught me over the years. I am a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, and have completed the Attachment Therapy Program with ATTACh I’m 2013. These families have their own unique challenges, and often multiple layers of challenges, which I deeply understand being and a parent who had adopted and fostered. These children often have unpredictable and intense behaviors. Though no two days are alike for these children, they are also so lovable and brilliant in their own ways. Children have a natural driver towards healing. My role is to help the child see their own brilliance, allow them to move through their own trauma stories towards healing, while increasing their ability to tolerate day to day stresses, and work with caregivers to support attachment and confidence parenting intense children. I truly believe caregivers are the experts on the children in their home and I cannot do this work with the support of such wonderful caregivers! Just because the behavior or concern doesn’t show up in the playroom, I fully believe it is happening at home on a regular basis! I also understand that collaboration is a big piece of supporting the children I see and have experience working with other member of the child’s team (pediatricians, OT, PT, speech providers, school members and IEP collaboration).

Vinland National Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to full lives for people with disabilities. We enable individuals with multiple disabilities to live productive and fulfilling lives through a whole person approach that addresses the mind, body and spirit. Vinland’s programs include behavioral health services with a focus on substance abuse and supportive housing for people with cognitive disabilities.
We are a fully- accredited substance abuse treatment center licensed by the state of Minnesota. We meet the complex needs of individuals with disabilities seeking treatment for drug and alcohol abuse. We understand that past trauma is common for people struggling with addiction, which is why we provide trauma-informed services aimed at reducing triggers and avoiding re-traumatization.
Our program is designed for:
- Those who can benefit from a slower-paced, more individually–focused program.
- People living with disabilities such as brain injury, developmental disability and/or physical disabilities.
- Individuals dealing with simultaneous mental illnesses.
- Those who have had difficulty succeeding in traditional chemical dependency treatment programs or those who have relapsed and need a new approach.
We treat co-occurring disorders and offer fully integrated mental health services. Clients participate in mental health groups and meet one-on-one with licensed mental health professionals. When appropriate, clients meet in-house with our psychologist and psychiatrist.
In addition, Vinland is known for its outstanding Therapeutic Exercise Program. A safe, slow, gentle, supervised physical reconditioning program, this is specifically offered at our residential program location. All clients receive a pre-assessment to determine their current functional capacity. After the assessment, an exercise physiologist designs a personal program to improve their strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, posture and body mechanics. Many of our clients have issues related to chronic pain, musculoskeletal injuries and/or traumatic brain injuries, which makes personalized programming a necessity.
Situated on a hill overlooking Lake Independence in western Hennepin County, Vinland’s main campus encompasses 178 acres of restored prairie land, woods and shoreline. It is a rural setting conveniently located just 20 miles west of Minneapolis and 45 miles south of St. Cloud.
Residential treatment at Vinland is intended for people with disabilities who are chemically dependent. We serve adults ages 18 and older. We offer assistance in arranging transportation to and from appointments at Vinland’s main campus.
